Children use intellect and creativity galore while planning, mapping, and building 3-D models of cities using Scientific Explorer Young Architect City Planner. It's fun on a grand scale in which imagination and problem-solving are used to equally great effect. The planning phase starts by taping a piece of tracing paper atop the mat base, the 18-inch X 24-inch grid of 1-inch squares that helps kids map out cities and decide where roads and buildings will go. A stencil template is used to design roads. Tracing-guides make it a simple matter to add trees, crossings, train tracks and other icons. Kids then use the set's colored pencils to shade areas before placing 3-D buildings and bridges on their map. Building shapes snap together in various configurations, while reusable vinyl decals add detail to the homes, storefronts, and high-rises that spring up. Includes 49 stackable buildings in 3 shapes, 5 steeple roof caps, 5 chimney caps, 5 dome roof caps, 5 slanted roof caps, 6 bridge pieces, 3 colored pencils, 6 sheets of large white paper, 3 paper city guide traceables, acetate stencil, folding drawing mat and instruction manual.
