Roominate Townhouse is a delightfully versatile building set geared towards girls that nurtures imagination, creativity and a range of intellectual skills. Its pieces snap together easily and allow for a huge variety of townhouse designs from simple to elaborate. Illustrated instructions provide a number of construction ideas, but kids invariably veer off in their own creative direction. An included motor can be used to construct moving components like a windmill, merry-go-round, washing machine, and more. The set's smaller pieces enable the construction of a surprising range of furniture items (chairs, shelves, stove, bunk bed, . . .) with which to decorate the interior, along with more than two dozen food and home accessories that generate a truly lived-in feel. That level of detail is further enhanced by 6 cutout wallpaper patterns and a set of highly colorful sticker embellishments. The life-like nature of these self-designed playsets (and the included Emma doll and her pet pig Hodgkin) inspire a great deal of open-ended, hands-on play.
