King of 20 does for numbers and simple math what Scrabble did for letters and words - turns them into highly entertaining fun. But you don't need to be a lover of math or numbers in order to greatly enjoy this game. After populating their tile racks with 5 tiles apiece (replenished after each turn) players take turns placing up to 3 tiles at a time on a Scrabble-like board, interconnecting them with existing tiles in a crossword-like way. But instead of words, players create valid expressions such as 7 X 3 - 2. The goal is to receive the lowest score by making expressions that are as close as possible to the number 20. Your score on each turn is the difference between the value of your expression and the number 20, so your score for the above expression would be 1 (since 7 X 3 - 2 = 19 and the difference between 20 and 19 is 1). Over time, the board includes expressions with a higher number of operations (such as 7 X 3 + 1 - 2), making finding the best place for your tiles a bit more challenging. But that challenge, and the adeptness with which you'll find yourself quickly performing these calculations, is half the fun. For 2 to 4 players.
