There are many astounding aspects to this new HEXBUG Nano set, but the two that really jumped out at us are the ways in which the Nano (a tiny micro robotic creature) moves, and the ingenious design of its highly customizable habitat. And by habitat we mean multi-level playground, stunt set, and - at the risk of being accused of reaching a little - work of art. Configuring and reconfiguring the habitat, with its tubes, platforms, gates, bumpers, and columns, is half the fun. It's quick and easy to do, and the ease and number of variables lends itself to creative thinking. The rest of the fun, of course, comes from unleashing Nanos into your creation and watching them scurry and climb, careen and tumble, with lifelike abandon. Nanos move through the science of vibration, and their unique design (the one included has little rubber tendrils on its back in addition to 8 leg-like appendages) enables them to do amazing things. The most jaw-dropping effect in this set is the Nano's ability to appear to defy gravity, climbing straight up through the smooth, contoured, or curving plastic tubes that interconnect with one another and the platforms. The Nano has the ability to flip from its back to its feet, to travel on its side or upside down, and putting two or more of them together (additional Nanos are available separately) more than doubles the action and the fun.
