Auryn, Inc. is an absolute master at creating breathtaking apps that are magical worlds unto themselves. There are so many wonderful things going on in this interactive storybook app. Page after page is loaded with stunning visuals, sounds, activities, and games. The charming introduction by actress Jamie Lee Curtis (who is also the author, with illustrations by Laura Cornell) explains how she conceived of this story of a balloon's journey. You can read along with a voice-over by Curtis or turn it off to read on your own. Hints on each page convey how to trigger games and activities. Create custom postcards and send them to friends. Make a constellation in the night sky by touching a succession of stars. A recurring fan icon can be dragged around the page, blowing balloons and characters along with it. You can even inflate an onscreen balloon by blowing into your device, and then twist and fold it into animal shapes. Enter the Balloon Theatre, where you create custom characters and record them in a play, capturing audio and video that is often quite hilarious. Many pages become absolutely enchanting when activated by your touch. Our favorite was the Big Balloon Dance, in which the screen continuously scrolls through dozens of varied balloons dancing to spellbinding music while you take in the gorgeous visuals.
